Christmas Dinner At Brewers Fayre

Our table was booked for 3pm. A waitress called over the waiter dealing with customers arriving. He was friendly despite it being close to the end of a busy shift.

Our table was between two large tables. Both parties were towards the end of their meals. We had requested to be by a wall or window due to my hearing difficulties in noisy places, which contributes to my fatigue. However, we were in the middle of two tables with a wall the width of the table adjacent to the table. The other side of the wall was the entrance lobby. Not so great to reduce the impact of noise with poor hearing. Although if we hadn’t asked to be next to a wall, we could well have been sat in the middle of many tables. So it could have been worse. We had booked the table mid November, so they may have squeezed us in. I don’t know how quickly restaurants are booked up before Christmas. I also don’t know how their allocation system works.

The starters arrived in good time. Chris had prawn cocktail, my daughter had garlic bread. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to  cook my daughter mozzarella sticks and onion rings as well, which weren’t on the menu. Ben and I didn’t have starters. I knew the main meal would be filling and I wanted to save room for a desert! The carvery was excellent, with a good selection of vegetables. There was one vegetarian option, broccoli and mushroom Wellington, I chose this. The pastry was delicious. I was slightly disappointed at the lack of broccoli in the pie, especially as this wasn’t one of the vegetables available in the carvery. We waited quite a long time for our main meal plates to be taken away, then another long wait for deserts to be brought out. We waited again for the remainder of our deserts after two had been served. Again, it was the end of what must have been a very busy shift for the waiting staff. All of whom we still friendly and approachable.

Overall the atmosphere was very relaxed. I felt under no pressure (as I sometimes do) to finish my meal quickly in order to free up the table for more customers.
